Jiah Khan

Jiah Khan was born on February 20, 1988 in New York, and was brought up in London, Chelsea. She studied English literature and Art from MPW in London, and then at the age of 17 went on to study Shakespeare and method acting at the Lee Strasberg’s Institute in New York.
The greatest turning point in Jiah Khan’s life came when Ram Gopal Verma selected her as the lead heroine opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial film 'Nishabd', loosely based around the famous novel ‘Lolita.’ Ram Gopal Varma directed 'Nishabd' and all of 18, Jiah Khan instantly became one of the most sought after actresses in the industry. The subject of the film was so sensitive and the portrayal of Jiah in that film was really eye catching and she proved herself with a stellar performance. Jiah's bold performance became a nationwide sensation.
Nishabd was released in 2007 and Jiah Khan got a ‘Filmfare Best Debutant’ nomination for her acting skills.
Jiah Khan also sang one of the songs “Take Lite” for 'Nishabd'. She composed, wrote and the choreographed the song, that went onto be quite popular among the younger generation. Jiah is trained in singing and recorded six pop numbers. She wanted to experiment in the field of music and tried to release one album before she joined films.
Jiah Khan is a versatile dancer and has been taking training in different dance forms like salsa, jazz, kathak, ballet, reggae, lambada and belly dancing e. She has interests in different fields but her ultimate passion is acting.
She then went on to star in a film that made history in India for its profit, and celebrated 100 days in the cinema. The film was named Ghajini and starred ace actor Aamir Khan. From the seductress in Nishabd, Jiah went onto play a girl next door in this movie, and received accolades for a natural performance.
Her latest release Housefull is a comedy opposite Akshay Kumar. She was once again seen in completely different avatar, donning a bikini to a shalwar kameez. Having played the docile traditional Indian girl and changing into a dominatrix for the popular song ‘I don’t know what to do’, her character was praised and the glamorous avatar even more so. The film was a major success internationally and broke the record of even Ghajini.
She is also the face of Wrangler jeans, becoming the first ever Wrangler girl in the history of Wrangler, and was the ambassador for Taj Group. She is an ambassador for PETA and with her campaign has helped ban glass coated manja for kite flying that kills and decapitates thousands of birds each year at the kite flying festival in India, as well as lobbying for the banning of the killing of stray dogs by leading a debate and walk to save the dogs in Mumbai.
 But Khan committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at around 11:45pm in a bedroom of her Juhu residence in Mumbai on the Monday, June 2, 2013, when her mother Rabiya and sister Kavita were not at home.
