Tisca Chopra

She was born on 1 November 1973 in Kasauli, a town in Himachal Pradesh. Her schooling and college years were spent in Delhi where she ended up topping Hindu College (Delhi University) in English Literature. Tisca also got involved with theatre work during her college years. Tisca was also involved in literary activities and was an active participant in college fests and the like. She later moved to Mumbai and was trained for theatre under Feroz Abbas Khan and Naseeruddin Shah.Tisca Chopra’s husband is the Indian Air Force officer Captain Sanjay Chopra. Tisca, in an interview to Times of India about Dinner with Friends said of her own experience with marriage that although attraction post-marriage was natural, acting upon it is not a good idea. “I have such a tremendous liking and respect for my husband that no one really matches up,” she said of her husband.Tisca Chopra happens to be the niece of renowned author and satirist Khushwant Singh. She is also a practicing Buddhist and is currently involved with several non-profit groups working towards women and children’s rights. Bharat Sokha Ghakkai is the NGO she is associated with currently.
Tisca Chopra debuted on the stage when she was 3 years old. Her film debut, Platform of 1993, saw her co-starring with Ajay Devgan. Tisca continued working on her stage acting skills and was seen in productions like Mahatma vs. Gandhi, All the Best, Salesman Ramlal, Inshah Allah and so on. She admits that the stage is definitely harder than films to do but films help raise an actor’s popularity.Tisca Chopra has also made her presence felt on the Indian Television circuit. Ek Shaam Ki Mulaquat and Hum Saath Saath Hain Kya? were among the first of her works on Television. She also managed to bag the leading role in Balaji Telefilms’ popular Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. This was followed by Love Marriage of Zee TV productions and Sarrkkar: Risshton Ki Ankahi Kahani of the same channel.

Tisca also played the role of Menaka in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Hyderabad Blues 2, a role that helped bring her to the limelight.Tisca Chopra’s recent role in Aamir Khan’s breakthrough film Taare Zameen Par shot her to stardom. Tisca Chopra has become a household name ever since. She played the role of Maya Awasthi, the harassed and well-meaning mother of the child protagonist, Ishaan Awasthi.Her role in Nandita Das’s Firaaq was also praised by critics
